Sigils
Project type
Sigils
Historically, sigils have appeared in many forms across cultures and time periods. The word “sigil” comes from the Latin sigillum, meaning “seal.”
In medieval and Renaissance traditions, sigils were used as seals representing spiritual entities or forces.
Later, modern magical traditions adapted the concept into a more personal practice: instead of representing external forces, sigils could represent a practitioner’s own intentions or desires. In the 20th century, sigil work became widely known through modern occult and artistic communities, where it evolved into a flexible creative process for turning ideas and intentions into symbolic form.
